What Makes a Roof Repair Go Wrong
Before we talk about what we fix, it's worth being honest about why roof repairs fail in the first place — because a lot of them do, and it's almost never the materials.
The wrong diagnosis. Water travels before it drops. A damp patch on a bedroom ceiling might be entering the roof three metres away through a failed flashing, a cracked ridge tile, or a lifted slate on the opposite side of the apex. A roofer who patches where the water is appearing rather than where it's entering will be back at your door six months later. We trace the actual entry point first, every time.
Temporary fixes sold as permanent ones. Roof sealant sprayed over failed flashing, mortar slapped over cracked flaunching, a single tile replaced while the surrounding course is loose — these are patches that buy a few months and create repeat call-outs. The wrong materials. Using modern sand-and-cement mortar to repoint Victorian lime mortar chimneys is one of the most common mistakes on older Manchester properties.
